Pre-Approving Green-Ready Homes.

Why pay the same for a conventional home as a green home that will be more comfortable and save you money?

Now you don’t have to settle for an increasing energy bill that looks more like a second mortgage.
Let us pre-approve  the home that you wish to buy to make sure that it is a Green-Ready Home.

Why a Green Home?

Depending on your choice of upgrades, your  Green Home will:

  • Cost less to own.
  • Be energy and water efficient.
  • Be more comfortable to live in.
  • Have good indoor air quality.
  • Help to protect our environment.

While most of the homes that we pre-approve can be in perfect move-in condition, they all have outdated features that are responsible for consuming a lot of expensive energy and water. They are also uncomfortable and unhealthy to live in because of outdated air systems. Many see these homes are unattractive, as they see upgrading them as a negative. With our program, we see the required upgrades as a positive, an opportunity to create a green home.

What is the criteria for a home to be Green-Ready approved?

For a home to be approved, it must make economical, financial and holistic sense to upgrade the features that effect the energy and water efficiency and air quality of a home.

For it to make holistic sense, the size or capacity of each upgraded  must be selected in economic consideration of its effect on the performance all of the others.

In conjunction with the guidelines of the EPA Healthy Indoor Environment Protocols, the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) and the EPA Water Sense Program, we follow the LEED for HOMES Whole House Approach, which not only considers one stand-alone Green Home Improvement, but also its relationship to all the other elements that impact the Green aspects of your home.

For it to make economic sense, the cost of the upgrades must be less than the potential savings that will be experienced during the life of the upgrades.

For it to make financial sense, the above economic determination must pass the Energy Efficient Mortgage qualification test as required and calcualted by a certified Home Energy Rater.

At Florida Green Home Consultants, we have LEED Accredited Professionals and Home Energy Raters who have been trained to do the calculations and make the above determinations.

Will green home upgrades help you to achieve your green living goals?

Whether they will or not also depends on the number of occupants in your home and their habits, the type, capacity, age, and how you manage your cooling, heating, and hot water systems, how you manage your water usage, the animals, contaminants in furnishings, flooring, paint on the walls, as well as the number and size of windows, and many other factors.

In a conventional home, there is no chance of you meeting green living goals. With a Green-Ready Home you have the opportunity to live in a home that you can manage to achieve your green home goals.
